TTS Verdict: If you love your food the way it should taste and to the point, Crepeteria is definitely not your calling. Or anyone else’s for that matter.
TTS Rating: 2/5
Nestled between Pizza Hut and Cafe Coffee Day is the yet another franchisee called Crepeteria in Lokhandwala, Andheri. Offering all-day breakfast as well as a la carte options as a part of its menu with interesting combo deals as well.
Very few places in Mumbai offer the luxury of enjoying a meal in an open air set up, Crepeteria being one of them. Though it has indoor options with air-conditioning, it would make a good choice if you wish to watch television.
Even though the open-air section overlooks a busy Lokhandwala street, (and also the waiting queues of the next door Pizza Hut) it is quite a pleasant experience.
Oddly there are two menus two choose from, one being the a la carte menu and the other being a combo deals menu – both offering an array of options to choose from – to make the meal worthwhile.
Served with fresh garlic bread, Pasta Arabiatta was a sign of things to come. Sloppy presentation greeted us. The menu’s description when compared to what was served was a far cry. It lacked the right consistency but seemed to have the right proportions of chili and basil. Much to our surprise no tomato puree was used to cook this one. In stead, ketchup was employed as a substitute. And when questions of Parmesan cheese were raised, Amul cheese was discovered on the platter. The garlic bread was the saving grace of this dish.
The Big Daddy Burger’s presentation again was a far cry when compared to the description as given in the menu – so much so, it shocks you. The bread being flavorless adds to your woes and the chicken, seemingly boiled instead of breaded and fried, was dry and insipid. The carnivorous effect that a burger with a name like Big Daddy should elicit was stubbed out the second it appeared. The fries here, as the garlic bread, were the saving grace.
What came next was definitely the highlight of the meal. A smooth, tender and evenly cooked crepe with the original Nutella finally showed no compromise on quality. The chocolate cream worked for most parts, but an overdose of it could land you at the dentist. All in all, the crepe was decent, but not exactly a thrilling dessert. Oh and yes, it was loyal to the quality described on the menu. The Classic crepe did just about enough justice to the taste as it could. However, a few more crepes on the menu would have done justice to the eatery’s nomenclature.
On a closing note, if you’re planning to try the Cappucino here – don’t. Going wrong by all steps involved in coffee making, this one was a downer with respect to aroma and taste at the same time. With an array of options available all around at Lokhandwala, Crepetaria needs to get its act right in order to sustain. The meal however came without much of a pocket pinch – that being the only positive to take away.
